Annu Kapoor Reveals Why He Changed His Name: ”He Is A Hero And I am A Zero”

: Actor Annu Kapoor shared- he changed his original name as Anil Kapoor was already an established star in the industry at that time, plus Annu was a common nickname in India during those days which he opted for.

‘Annu Kapoor’ is an outstanding actor known for his perfect portrayal of characters and fine sense of humour, who got his first breakthrough with the film ‘Utsav’ (1984), in which he enacted the role of a masseur. In a career spanning over 40 years; kapoor has starred in many critically acclaimed and super-hit films like ‘Tezaab’, ‘Mr India’, ‘Ram Lakhan’ and many more. His father owned a travelling ‘Parsi Theatre’ which performed in numerous towns and cities due to which- Annu’s soul inclined towards the craft of acting.

Born as ‘Anil Kapoor’, the N.S.D alumnus once shared that the latter had to change his name as there was already an eminent filmstar named ‘Anil Kapoor’ in the Mumbai movie industry. In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar he revealed “I came to Mumbai in 1984 and Anil Kapoor was already a star by that time. He was born in 1965 December and I was born in February the same year. Though, none of that matters really. Now, he is a hero and I am zero. The one who is zero has to compromise.”

The ‘Aitraaz’ actor also mentioned a related trivia during those days in our country; people named Anuradha, Anil, Anupam, Anees, and Anwar used to have the nickname ‘Annu’. The actor was also called ‘Annu’ by his friends and family which in turn happened to be his ‘Screen Name’ in Bollywood to which he is extremely appreciative too. “So, my family also called me Annu and that became my screen name. I am grateful for all that I have received as Annu Kapoor. I have always given my best. Waise, (Anil ji) se mera koi milna julna nahi hai.” He added.

The multitalented personality garnered immense fan following amongst the youth through his mind-boggling performances in super-hit films like ‘Vicky Donor’ and ‘Jolly LLB-2’. The ‘7 Khoon Maaf’ artist also hosts a top-notch a radio show: ‘Suhaana Safar With Annu Kapoor’ which airs on 92.7 Big FM.
